Thai basil has been in cultivation for more than 3,000 years and has a stronger-flavored basil than sweet basil with notes of spicy anise. The leaves, which are about half the size of sweet basil, have purple stems and make attractive garnishes. They are added by the handful to dishes of Southeast Asia and throughout Chinese cuisine. A slightly smaller than Sweet Basil, it is perfectly suited for containers. Can be ed indoors for year round harvesting. This is a must have for curry and all Thai cooking. This strain of Thai basil has attractive purple stems and beautiful flower blooms. Also called "Horapha" in its mother country, "Hun Que" in Vietnam.

Culture Information
We recommend directly seeding when soil warms or transing (can be started indoors 4-6 weeks before ing) after danger of frost in well-drained, moderately rich soil. Young seedlings will damp off if heavily watered during cool cloudy weather. Water sparingly at first.  Store seed in the freezer for best germination. Sow in spring after the last frost, 1-2 per inch, in rows 18" apart. Sow shallowly or cover lightly, as light is required for germination. Use row covers to enhance early season vigor and speed maturity. Can grow somewhat thickly, or thin to 8-12" apart. Germinates in 7-21 days. Prefers sun and medium rich sandy soils. Pinch off leaves for fresh use once the s have become established - this will also help stimulate branching and leaf growth. Intolerant of frost, damaged by temperatures in the 30s. Make successive sowings for continuous summer supplies. Pinch back flower stalks as they appear to keep s from bolting.
