I need to reinforce a spot on my cast. Would I just wet this tape and apply it directly over the current cast?

Yes, just submerge the tape and wrap it around the old cast. I’ve found two to three layers work the best

the directions say put it in water but when we did it harden up why?

I bought this thinking I was getting a soft cast, but same thing happened to me. This is a HARD cast. You put it in water and it hardens very quickly. I put it on my foot not knowing and then had a horrible time getting it off and couldn't walk in it. This is something a doctor should put on someone.

How do you remove the cast?

We used this for our Christmas elf when our son broke his elbow this past year. It just popped off the stuffed animal. Sorry, I know this probably does not help. It does get hard and is a true cast. Try googling other removal methods. Perhaps soaking or tin snips?
